HELENA — A group of people who rely on in-person, consistent meetings are now turning to virtual meetings to stay on the path of a drug-free and sober life.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has forbidden large groups from gathering, people who are in 12-step recovery programs, such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous, are strongly relying on virtual meetings to stay in touch with others who are also on the road of recovery.

A leader of a 12 step program in Helena says, this pandemic has actually drawn people closer.

No,w even more people are joining in on virtual recovery meetings.

Recovery leader Samme R. says, "I would have to say there are more people gathering, they are reaching out, which is a huge part of being in recovery is getting to those people. Not only do we have the Zoom platform, but luckily with cell phones, we have text messaging. If you are struggling, pick up the phone and call or get on the Zoom meeting and get in touch with somebody. "
