Labor Day Snow in Montana

Posted
and last updated

Happy Labor Day!
The flakes are flying, and not just in the mountains. Snow has fallen down to some valleys and plains so far today. The mountains above 6000' have already received a few inches of snow with several more likely to accumulate. Road surfaces over the mountain passes have mainly been wet after the recent heat over the last several days. Most of the wildfires burning in the state are experiencing a soaking rain. Some fires like the Drumming Fire near Heart Butte and the Bridger Foothills Fire near Bozeman are seeing snow over the burn areas. Snow and some lower elevation rain will continue into this evening. With clearing skies tonight, temperatures will drop into the 20s and 30s with a killing frost/freeze likely for most of the state.
