Snow in Montana creates numerous outdoor recreation activities that generate precious revenue. And when there’s a lean winter, businesses feel that in their pocket.
“Every season has its advantages, but in winter if we don’t have the snow, we don’t have the recreation to go with it,” Laurie Richards says.
There are many towns across Montana that are like Lincoln, in the sense that the stores, hotels, restaurants and bars that rely on winter weather to bring in tourism.
According to the Montana Office of Tourism, during the winter of 2016-2017, out of state visitors spent $885 million here in Big Sky Country.
