A Eureka cafe is giving away free milkshakes to school kids who are going above and beyond in the community during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Cafe Jax owner Savahna Meester said this 50s style diner has been in her family for years.
Meester said she got the idea of milkshakes for smiles after her two young sons were missing school and their teachers due to the governor's closure order.
She wanted to give students a way to have something fun to look forward to. So, she's giving away two free milkshakes a day for students who go above and beyond for their community.
"The milkshakes are something we're doing to kinda just bring some smiles to the kid's faces. We always give milkshakes away when school is going on,” Meester said.
She added that Cafe Jax works with the schools to find out which students are doing extra good deeds and those students then receive milkshakes. A new winner is announced each morning.
Meester says the Cafe Jax – which is currently only open for takeout orders -- will continue with milkshakes for smiles for as long as needed.
