BUTTE - For Montana Tech’s new chancellor, student move-in day is like a holiday.
“You know, you recruited the students, you spent a lot of time with that and you get them here and it’s like Christmas morning once they arrive,” said Montana Tech Chancellor Les Cook.
Many new freshmen will be the first residents of the Butte campus’ new $24 million Student Success Center that was built to help recruit more students and increase retention.
“Students that live in this building have access not only to a great living facility, they have access to any of the services they need. Kind of a one stop shop basically,” said Cook.
Students moving into the dorm this week, as well as their parents, said they were impressed by the new building.
“I really like it, I’m very impressed, I’m very impressed. I’m excited to move all my stuff in there,” said in-coming freshman Ella Hubbard of Missoula.
Her mother, Dani Hubbard agreed, “I think it’s incredible. It’s so state-of-the-art.”
“This has a really, from what I’ve seen, has a really nice vibe to it, feels very homey and I really like it,” said Ella Hubbard.
And campus officials hope more students will stay. Montana Tech had an enrollment of just over 2,500 students last fall. Classes begin Monday.
