The Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium will be the home for table tennis during the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The gymnasium, constructed in 1956, was used during the 1964 Olympic Games for gymnastics and water polo which was held in the venue's indoor pool.
In addition to the Olympics, the gymnasium has hosted many large scale sporting events in Japan including world championship competitions in table tennis, wrestling, volleyball, and figure skating.
