The Montana Department of Agriculture’s Annual Pesticide Disposal Program was designed to help people - both in town and in the country - dispose of any pesticides that are unusable as originally intended and can’t be used for any other purpose.
The department’s Carli Davis says since 1994, the program has collected more than 638,000 pounds of waste pesticides.
“We take any insecticide, herbicides, rodenticides and unknown products that people are fairly sure are a pesticide” said Davis. “Those unknown products do get tested at the site by our contractors to make sure. We just don't take things like used paint and fertilizers and oil and those other hazardous waste products. But anything that is considered a pesticide we can take.”
She says this year the program is headed for eastern Montana.
“The collection events will be held September 17 in Wolf Point; September 18 in Sidney; September 19 in Miles City; and September 20 in Billings” said Davis.
There is no charge for the first 200 pounds of material. Amounts over 200 pounds are assessed at $1 per pound.
