Gov. Steve Bullock was in Missoula on Wednesday and one of his stops was at a Missoula Parks and Recreation day camp to discuss government funding with organizers.
The BASE Camp, at the old public library, is funded with money from the CARES Act, set to expire at the end of this year.
Officials with Parks and Rec say they aren't exactly sure how they will continue to fund the programs after the money runs out, but they will work to figure something out as they know this is a vital service.
Gov. Bullock says COVID-19 has shone a light on the importance of childcare in Montana.
"Hopefully the pandemic has taught us a number of things. I mean, it's taught us about the importance of telemedicine, all kinds of different things, but one of the things is making sure -- because it's so critical to our economy -- that we have affordable access to daycare, not just during the pandemic, but actually all year round,” Gov. Bullock said.
The Democrat also stopped by Bedrock Sandals in Missoula before heading to Butte.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this article indicated that Gov. Bullock's Wednesday visit to Missoula was campaign-related. The governor was visiting Missoula in his official capacity as governor.
