The Wyoming Highway Patrol's longest-serving K-9 officer has called it a career.
The K-9, Hunter, spent nine years on the job, most recently assigned to a division in Lyman with Trooper Scott Neilson, according to a Friday release. He officially retired last month.
He started his career in 2010 in narcotics detection work, paired with Sgt. Jeremy Beck, who is now the highway patrol's public information officer.
Hunter was directly involved in the seize of over 1,069 pounds of marijuana, 136.1 grams of cocaine, 4.7 pounds of methamphetamine, 35.1 grams of heroin, and 1.3 pounds of other illegal narcotics. He was deployed 418 times in the seizures of illegal drugs.
Troopers called Hunter's career "exceptional," and said he is spending his retirement with Neilson and his family.
