Carroll College President, John Cech, spoke with MTN News for the first time since his self-quarantine.

According to Cech, his last day of quarantine will be March 24 if he continues to show no symptoms.

“I feel great. So, I'm quite hopeful and pretty confident that I'm gonna dodge the bullet on this one,” says Cech

It seems Carroll College is also dodging a bullet as Cech confirmed there are no positive cases of COVID 19 on campus as of March 19. Carroll College tested and rolled out its virtual learning this week before the planned March 23rd date.

“So, we’ve been adjusting and making changes as necessary,” says Cech.

He says as of right now there is no decision to extend remote learning past the initial period. However, that can change based on data received on a daily basis. Classes can still be finished remotely for students who choose to return home, even if in-person classes returned. No changes have been made regarding commencement for graduates. Cech says he does not want a virtual commencement.

“I will say I'm committed to holding an in-person commencement. It’s just too special not hold an in-person commencement,” says Cech.

Depending on the virus situation, Cech says Carroll could postpone commencement until December. The college created an Incident Command Team to meet daily and monitor the virus as it relates to the campus. The Borromeo building on campus has been designated as a quarantine area if there were to be a virus case on campus.

Cech says no one is in quarantine as of March 19, 2020.

Dr. Cech held a virtual town hall meeting with students, faculty, and staff. He tells MTN News that about 900 attended the meeting. Click here for the meeting.
