St. Peter's Health is hosting the 2020 Mom Virtual Conference. The forum is a two-day event that focuses on maternal health care.
This year’s theme is “We CAN do more” and aims to highlight maternity care and mental health.
According to health officials, about one in five mothers will experience postpartum depression or anxiety and one in ten fathers can experience similar feelings of depression once the baby is born.
If left untreated, postpartum depression can have a significant impact on the family.
Mothers are encouraged to seek help when feeling depressed, and partners are encouraged to help their spouses seek treatment when they notice mood changes.
“There is help. It takes time, but there's many people in this community that are willing to meet a mom where she is at, wrap around resources, and care and support and help her through this time period,” says Kelsey Kyle, the Nurse Care Manager at St. Peter’s Health.
The second day of the forum will begin at 9:30 in the morning, February 13th, 2020 at St. Peter's Hospital. The event is free and open to the public.
