Members from different churches gathered at Helena Valley Faith Center for an all-day crisis course. This course teaches the church members on what to do in emergencies such as an active shooter or a disaster.
“It doesn't matter the size of the community, large or small. Bad things happen everywhere, and we want to make sure that everyone is prepared for when that happens or if that happens. So, we can save as many lives as possible,” says Delo.
Greg Delo is the instructor of the course. He works with Strategos International, a company based on teaching groups such as churches, law enforcement, and all others on how to prepare for crisis situations.
“So, some of the skills I’m going to teach these guys is how to apply tourniquets, how to take gauze and put it inside a wound to stop the bleeding if you can’t fix that wound with a tourniquet, how to treat sucking chest wounds, if you have a hole in your chest wound, teach you how to put a seal over that,” says Delo.
“You know, I think everybody should be prepared, you know. Everybody should at least have basic knowledge of medical situations and needs, so,” says Cindy Hoy, an attendee of the event.
“We can save a lot of lives, and it doesn't take very long, and the people here in the room, have the best chance of saving the most lives before EMS, or PD gets here,” says Delo.
Both Greg and Cindy predict that in the future, many, if not, all church members will have crisis training.
