Helena's God's Love shelter is asking for donations ahead of January’s dangerously cold weather.
The non-profit provides food and shelter for the homeless.
God's Love staff are asking for donations of warm-weather clothing such as gloves, hats, scarves, and many more items.
The shelter says they fill the nearly 50 spaces they have for men, women and families and have been accommodating an additional 20 people or more in the dining room each night.
God’s Love office manager, Rachel Saunders, says that number could double or triple with the sub-zero temperatures.
Saunders tells MTN they will not reject anyone seeking shelter from the cold.
“We tell everyone, ‘you’re always welcomed here.’ We know it gets cold. Getting ready for work, the staff is even like, ‘oh my gosh, it’s cold out!’ We really don’t want anyone outside. What we tell clients is ‘as long as you behave yourself, you’re welcome to stay,’” says Saunders.
The shelter also needs hygiene products such as toilet paper and trash bags. Saunders says that hardly any of these hygiene products are donated to the shelter.
God’s Love is located on North Last Chance Gulch. They accept donations at any time. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
