The City of Bozeman will have a new mayor next time the City Commission meets in January.

Deputy Mayor Chris Mehl was elected back in 2017 and will serve as the mayor come next month.

Looking ahead at 2020, Mehl says near the top of the list of the commission’s goals is finding a replacement city manager, as well as continuing to address the affordable housing shortage in Bozeman.

The Bozeman City Commission will also continue working on the Community Plan, which is designed to address rapid growth and planning policy for the city.

Mehl says he also hopes to improve community outreach efforts in the future.

“When I ran in ‘17, I talked about things like perhaps having a City Hall meeting out on the west side of town at the third fire station,” said Mehl.

“I’ll be very interested in having a meeting out there. We’re always at City Hall, which is a great, great place, we can be on TV. But we need to start going to people, not just asking them to come in.”

Annexation will also be a big agenda item for the commission in 2020.

City Commissioners will have their swearing-in ceremony on January 6.
