HELENA — The Helena Police Department is reminding the community to always take precautions securing your home when you are away or asleep.

In a press release, HPD took two different reports (August 25th and 26th, 2020) of an unknown person entering the homes through an open window in the Broadway/south-central area of town while the residents were asleep.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing all back clothing and a face mask similar to a COVID-19 cloth mask.

HPD says it is possible these two burglaries are related to similar incidents in the area between the end of July - early August 2020.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Adam Shanks at (406) 457-8829. You may also provide tips anonymously through Crimstoppers at (406) 443-2000 or via the website at helenacrimstoppers.com.

HPD recommends following these tips in securing your home:

  1. Placing window blocks in place so that open windows can only be opened a certain distance.
  2. Reviewing locks on your doors and windows and the need for additional or updated security.
  3. Consider any of the many low-cost home alarm or electronic monitoring and camera systems available on the market.
  4. Periodically check your doors and windows to ensure they haven’t been tampered with, and report anything suspicious to law enforcement.

HPD also recommends getting to know your neighbors to understand what is normal and abnormal in the area. You are urged to call law enforcement if you notice suspicious activity or people.
