HELENA — Four Georgians Elementary School has ten 4th and 5th grade "Recess Rockstars", but these students aren't rock stars because they play the drums or the guitar.
They're part of the “Meaningful Work Program", which aims to help teach the students good working skills, as well as helping others.
In order to join the program the students have to fill out an application and go through an interview, before being accepted into the program.
Recess Rockstar Collin Stracener says, “My favorite part about being a Recess Rockstar is, I can make new friends with the little kids.”
Kayley Samson, is also a Recess Rockstar, she says her favorite part playing with the little kids and helping people.
The Recess Rockstar’s program has been running at Four Georgians for more than five years, and Secretary Erika Fehr says, it is their most popular program.
Fehr added, "I just think it is such a good program where the kids who are the mentors learn how to be a mentor and maybe somebody who’s having trouble finding friends with their own peer group can go out and feel like they’re important and special and that they have something to give."
