HELENA — Helena Food Share is temporarily closing its East Helena pantry in response to COVID-19.
Leaders are asking customers to go to their Helena pantry, at 1616 Lewis St.
Executive director Bruce Day said the change was unfortunate, but necessary. He said the East Helena pantry is very small, and social distancing requirements made it difficult to work there. He said staff and volunteers have had to work out of the back of a truck.
Day said they have been asking their East Helena customers whether they would be able to come to Helena for food assistance during this time.
“It allows us to provide a better service,” he said.
The Lewis Street Pantry is open Monday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:30 to 3:30, Thursday from 12:30 to 6:30 and Friday from 12:30 to 3:30.
If anyone can’t make it to the Helena pantry or has questions about the changes, Day encouraged them to call Food Share at (406) 443-3663.
