Looking for something fun and delicious to do this weekend?
At the Comfort Food Challenge on Sunday, you can eat some good food and give back to families in the Helena area.
The Comfort Food Challenge benefits Family Promise of Greater Helena, which has helped families facing homelessness since 2011.
They partner with churches to shelter homeless families with children as they work towards sustainable independence.
Since July 2018, Family Promise has helped 24 families with direct emergency aid and given support and shelter to 15 families.
There's no limit for the help families receive, but on average a family will stay in the shelter program for 85 days.
Executive director Glenna Wortman-Obie says the money raised from the event helps them with their important work.
“We don’t have a big budget,” she said Thursday. “We always tell people for every dollar we raise, we give back three dollars in services to the community. So the funds we raise from the Comfort Food Challenge are really to underpin our operating expenses.”
Last year, she said they raised around $30,000. This year, they want to exceed that number.
The event begins Sunday, February 9th at 4 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15/person or $35 for a family of two adults and up to four children ages 7 to 14. Kids under 6 get in free.
You can buy tickets at 406tix.com. They’re also available at both Hallmark locations or at the door.
