HELENA — Helena Boy Scouts hosted a flag raising ceremony on Saturday to celebrate Independence Day.

The flag raising took place at the Old Glory Landmark in Helena. According to the Old Glory Landmark Committee, the traditional ceremony with festivities was canceled due to the pandemic.

Troop 214 stepped in and held a special ceremony. Boy Scouts helped raise the flag and students from Capital High School students played The Star-Spangled Banner.

The event was private to limit the gathering amount. However, this didn’t stop the committee nor the Scouts from celebrating our nation’s flag.

“Even though everything is being canceled, it's still important that we are staying here together as a nation, as America, and 4th of July is a perfect time to celebrate that," says Zach Heller, a Troop 214 Boy Scout.
