More firefighters expected to arrive for blazes in Gravelly mountains

MISSOULA – The pair of fires burning in the Gravelly Range mountains south of Ennis has now scorched more than 6,700 acres.

The Monument Fire is 2 percent contained and is listed at 4,415 acres and the Wigwam Fire is at 2,300 acres and is zero-percent contained.

Crews are being assigned to structure protection and an incident command post is being set up at the Ennis Fairground.

Four helicopters are currently assigned and additional crews and equipment are on order.

The lightning-caused fires are located south and west of Ennis in very rough, mountainous terrain at the 9,000-foot elevation. They’re burning in whitebark pine and subalpine fir.

A crew of 150 are currently assigned to the fire with more arriving today.
