HELENA – The Montana DNRC says little changed overnight Tuesday on the Shellrock Fire north of Helena.
The fire was started by lightning on Saturday, Aug. 11th. It’s burned 300 acres on a mix of state and private land around the Beartooth Wildlife Management Area in southern Cascade County.
Currently, no structures are threatened, but fire managers say some structures including a historic cabin and high voltage power lines are near the fire.
A team that includes smoke jumpers, engines, helicopters and heavy equipment are on the ground building fire line and fighting spot fires.
If conditions allow firefighters will conduct a burn operation later Tuesday.
The Beartooth WMA has been closed because of the fire activity.
