LIBBY – The Davis Fire has slowed in growth adding a little over 200 acres to an estimated 5,565 acres burned after nearly tripling in size over the weekend.

Canadian firefighters are managing the northern part of the fire which is only 5% contained.

Fie managers say that smoke and intermittent cloud cover will moderate fire activity.

Wrapping of Garver lookout tower will continue as a precaution if the fire should move further east.

An area closure around the Davis Fire remains in effect and is expected to expand in response to the growth of the fire.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are still in effect on the Kootenai National Forest.

The blaze, which is burning northwest of Yaak in Lincoln County, was sparked by lightning on July 29th.
