HELENA — For 66 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters have been collecting funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This is an annual fundraiser where you typically see firefighters outside with a boot collecting donations. In 2020, the fundraiser went virtual because of the pandemic.

In previous years, Helena firefighters were able to raise about $13,000. Having the fundraiser virtually does bring more challenges but Helena Firefighter, Dave Maslowski, remains hopeful that he can still help those with neuromuscular diseases.

“We have the unique privilege to be called 'heroes', stuff like that, but when we hear the stories of these kids battling this disease and all they want to do is go to summer camp. This is our ability to provide some funds to send these kids to summer camp. It makes all the difference," says Dave Maslowski, a Helena Fire Fighter.

All proceeds go to funding research for treatments and cures for ALS, muscular dystrophy, and other neuromuscular diseases.
