BILLINGS – Averill Castro is facing 10 charges after reportedly crashing a car, entering two Billings homes uninvited, and assaulting a police officer.
According to charging documents, Castro became combative with police during an arrest, kicking an officer at one point and refusing to comply with orders.
Officers said that Castro was found Wednesday evening underneath a dining room table in a home on Glenwood Lane in Billings. The elderly man living in the home told officers he didn’t know how Castro got there.
Witnesses also reported seeing Castro enter another home on Glenwood Lane, going into a backyard, and at one point carrying a puppy but leaving then leaving the dog in the backyard before moving on.
Earlier that evening, officers were called to a disturbance on Colton Boulevard and Woody Drive. Witnesses told police they saw hit and run crash, and a female suspect was driving a white Dodge Stratus.
Castro is accused of crashing her vehicle into a blue van, damaging her front passenger side, breaking the windshield, and causing heavy damage to the car. She reportedly sustained a head wound from the crash.
When officers tried to arrest Castro, she allegedly refused to comply, at one point kicking the officer and screaming. Castro allegedly continued being combative even after being placed in the back seat of the police cruiser.
She is facing charges for resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, criminal trespass, failure to give notice of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license, failure to provide proof of insurance, and assaulting a peace officer.
At last check, Castro was still in custody at the Yellowstone County Detention Center.
According to the Montana Department of Corrections, Castro was on probation at the time of her arrest; she has a felony conviction in Yellowstone County for criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
