HELENA – A 45 year-old Montana woman is accused of stealing a deceased woman’s identity and forging checks in Helena and Great Falls.

Tammy Day appeared in Lewis and Clark Justice Court on Thursday on felony charged of forgery and theft.

According to court documents, a woman purchased a 2014 Honda Civic from a Helena car dealer on August 8th, using a bank check.

The car dealer was notified several days later that the check appeared altered, and was determined to be fake.

When investigators checked the name on the driver’s license, it came as a woman who had recently passed away. The name was also linked to forgery and fraud investigations in Great Falls.

Helena police, working with Great Falls police, were able to identify Tammy Day as the suspect.

The judge set bond at $25,000.
