HELENA – A Lewis and Clark County Judge set bond at $40,000 for a woman accused of assaulting a man.

Mariee Zitnik appeared via video in Justice Court Wednesday afternoon on charged of assault with a weapon and partner-family member assault.

Deputies were dispatched to Moose Creek campground southwest of Helena, just after nine Tuesday night for a report of a man lying in the road.

The man claimed Zitnik tried to kill him.

According to court documents, the man told police he and Zitnik got into an argument Monday morning and that she had punched him in the face and thrown rocks at him, and later in the day hit him with the blunt end of a knife.

Investigators say the man’s eyes were almost completely swollen shut and he had cuts, scrapes and bruises on his face.
