Montana adds 173 new COVID-19 cases (Thursday, August 6)

UPDATE: 8/6/2020 - 12:03 PM - As of Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, at 12 p.m. Gallatin County has six new confirmed cases of COVID-19, for a cumulative total of 921. There are 43 confirmed active cases and one current hospitalization. There have been a total of 875 people recovered in Gallatin County. Three people have died from COVID-19 complications.

Montana added 173 new COVID-19 cases to its total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map on Thursday.

Note: Numbers reported by the state each day may differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. MTN News counts the updated data individual counties report throughout a given day.

• TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 4,602 cumulative cases statewide, with 2,964 people recovered.

• HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are currently 87 patients hospitalized. There have been 259 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

• ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,573 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.

• TESTING: The number of tests increased by 1,888 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 183,124.

• DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is now at 65.

Yellowstone County reported another death Wednesday morning but said it would not be reflected in the Wednesday report from the state. Here is the full press release:

RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports another COVID-19 related death of a Yellowstone County resident.

Early Wednesday, August 5, a man in his 60s passed away at a Yellowstone County hospital.

The 26th COVID-19 death in Yellowstone County was confirmed Friday, along with the third death in Gallatin County.

Governor Steve Bullock announced a statewide directive requiring face coverings/masks in Montana on July 15. The directive applies to counties that have four or more active cases of COVID-19.

The directive requires that masks be used in most indoor settings and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Bullock said businesses will have the right to deny entry of anyone not wearing a mask.
