HELENA — 406 Recycling in Helena is expanding their services to now recycle food waste and compostable items.

406 has partnered with YES Compost in Gallatin County to deliver food waste from the Helena area to them. In return, 406 will collect any electronics recycled from YES Compost.

406 Recycling will give those interested a 5-gallon bucket to put any compostable food and items. Then, they will swap out the bucket every two weeks with a new, sanitized bucket.

YES Compost will recycle the food waste into worm castings to serve as fertilizer. The companies are excited to bring this environmental opportunity to the Helena area.

“We're able to get a situation where more items are composted or recycled than are thrown away,” says Matt Elsaesser, the owner of 406 Recycling. “So, it's a very rewarding feeling and we're very excited about this and how we can take greener actions everyday to reduce our environmental impact."

The cost of service with the bucket will be $20 a month. You can request more than one bucket if needed.
