LOLO – The Lolo Community Church is home to Habitat for Humanity this weekend.

The Manitoba, Canada chapter is passing through as part of their Cycle of Hope event which features almost 800 miles of biking and fundraising to build a young family a home.

Organizer Ian Hughs is on his eighth trip with Cycle of Hope.

“Every year, just by this event, we have raised enough money to build one house. So I think every time I’m on this event I built a house for somebody who needed a house,” Hughes said. “For somebody whose life is being changed by what we did today.”

Twenty-seven cyclists are part of the journey and they’ve already raised over $100,000 to build the home.

The home being built will go to a young family that immigrated to Canada from Eritrea.

Participant Rita Morier says her favorite part is how passionate the group is.

“You’re saying I shouldn’t be getting so much if I’m giving, but we are. This — and the whole family aspect of being a group, and doing this as a group to support a family to have a home,” Morier said.

Cycle for Hope was started by former President Jimmy Carter in Winnipeg in 1993. The group’s next stop is in Dillon, and the cyclists will make their way to Yellowstone to round out the trip.
