HELENA-Work is underway on the new greenhouse being built on the campus of Capital High School.

The structure is located on the school’s southwest lawn.

Funding for the project comes from Pre-Employment Transition Services, which helps with programs and curriculum for students with disabilities.

Six of Capital High’s special education students have been helping build the greenhouse.

Several teachers are helping as well, including biology teacher David Tuss.

He says once complete, the greenhouse will have limitless potential for many students at Capital High.

“We can get the art department involved, potentially. We can get the design apps department, the science department, special education, some of the industrial vo-tech,” says Tuss. “Because once we get the structure up, that’s just the structure. Then we’ve got to decide what’s going inside: piping and water, electricity. And how the space is going to be utilized. And not just the space, the space surrounding it.”

Along with the teachers and students, a professional contractor is volunteering his time and equipment to help.

They expect it will take another week or so to complete and then they’ll work on immediately putting the greenhouse to use.
