The animals at the Lewis and Clark Humane Society (LCHS) have a new outdoor napping area and cat tree thanks to the hard work of a local Eagle Scout.
Matthew Hartman of Troop 207 was joined by his fellow scouts on Friday to install the new features.
Hartman has spent the past few days building the canine napping structure and the cat tree as his Eagle project.
The humane society often has to replace cat trees due to the carpet being difficult to fully sanitize.
Hartman’s cat tree was specifically designed to make it easy for staff to clean and reuse.
The Eagle Scout humbly said the important part of today is helping the shelter and the animal there.
“As scouts and working on our eagle projects, this is always what it’s about,” said Hartman. “It is about helping our community and not expecting anything in return. There’s a good saying, ‘Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.’”
Hartman wants to thank Home Depot for their support and donating many of the materials needed to complete the project.
“This whole thing wouldn’t have been possible without their generosity,” added Hartman.
LCHS Executive Director Kelsee Dalton said the shelter is very grateful for the Scout’s work in bettering the Humane Society.
“It’s amazing every time someone gives in this way,” said Dalton. “We couldn’t afford to do this work without them. It just means so much to us.”
