GREAT FALLS – University of Montana President Seth Bodnar is taking his message statewide and on Tuesday he spoke to service club members at the Meadowlark Country Club in Great Falls.

Bodnar, who took over the top job at UM in January of last year, says the University needs to do a better job of telling its story to combat declining enrollment numbers.

Since he’s taken over, UM has worked on improving engagement with prospective students and their parents and has also revamped its admission and recruiting office.

Bodnar says they are preparing students for an uncertain future.

“So that’s one of the things we’re squarely focused on at the University of Montana…how we are preparing students, not just for that first job out of school — which we’re going to do,” Bodnar told MTN News.

“We’re going to make sure our students are job ready on day one but also that they are tomorrow proof, that they’re able to adapt. That they’re those critical thinkers, those problems solvers who can take an undefined problem and solve it,” he added.

Bodnar said overall he was pleased with how higher education fared during the 66th Montana Legislative Session, especially since lawmakers froze in-state tuition for students.
