GREAT FALLS – Out of a record 6,318 students across 48 states who participated in StudentCam, C-SPAN’s annual student video documentary competition, three local high schoolers received third place.
Foothills Community Christian School juniors, Madison Johnson, Raina Lindseth and Kenzie Huston, were honored for their video by C-SPAN and Spectrum on Thursday.
This year’s StudentCam’s theme was, “What does it mean to be American? Choose a constitutional right, national characteristic, or historic event and explain how it defines the American experience.”
The third place winner’s documentary was titled: “Our Constitutional Rights: The 2nd Amendment.”
The video contained research on what exactly the 2nd Amendment is and the different opinions on the subject.
During C-SPAN and Spectrum’s visit on Thursday, C-SPAN presented the winners with a StudentCam certificate of merit during a ceremony of classmates, teachers and family members.
At the ceremony, the winning video was also presented.
C-SPAN and Spectrum also presented the winners with prize money. All three students said they will save the money for college.
Among the 2,923 submissions for this year’s StudentCam competition, popular topics included First Amendment Rights, equality/discrimination and immigration.
