MISSOULA – Here’s the headline — newsboy caps are back in fashion in Missoula and so are Disney musicals.
Back before cries of “fake news”, it was “extra, extra” on the street corners of America’s cities and towns.
Although as the musical “Newsies” explains, newspaper magnets like Pultizer weren’t beyond manufacturing a few headlines to boost business.
The Missoula Community Theater has put together a huge cast to bring Disney’s musical to the stage.
The story tells of how the “Newsies” stick up for one another and share a few dreams, some headlines and even some fisticuffs. There are nuns too — and yes, those cool caps we still ought to be wearing in television news.
The show has a lot of enthusiasm from its young cast and if you like a performance with a lot going on atop the stage, this is it.
“Newsies” opens this weekend at MCT and runs through Sunday, May 12. There will also be another autism adapted special performance on May 8 with this show that closes out the Missoula Community Theater season.
