BILLINGS- Plowing has begun on Montana’s scenic Beartooth Highway.

The road closes each year due to excessive snow and winter conditions.

On Monday, crews started to clear the highway, which was covered with roughly four new inches of snow.

The Montana Department of Transportation crews will typically meet 26-foot high snow drifts.

The highway is set to open May 24, the Friday before Memorial Day.
