HELENA – Governor Steve Bullock joined with other elected officials and volunteers at the Capitol to plant pinwheels for child abuse prevention Wednesday.
“Pinwheels for Prevention” is a national awareness campaign, built around raising awareness of and preventing child abuse and neglect.
The blue pinwheels are meant to represent a positive, bright and consistent childhood; that all children deserve a chance to be raised and nurtured, in a stable, healthy and positive environment.
Helena community members, volunteers from participating organizations and attendees of the preventing child abuse and neglect conference, helped plant 1500 pinwheels in front of the capitol on the north lawn.
Every Monday in April is #GoBlue day, which a part of a social media campaign to encourage everyone to participate in.
Melissa Lavinder, grants manager for Montana Children’s Trust Fund said, “It’s a positive awareness event for strengthening families month and it really show casts the fact that every child deserves to have a great childhood and every community member can play even a small role in that, in the prevention of child abuse and neglect.”
Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Montana also donated $10,000 towards strengthening family’s month, making this their fifth contribution to the cause.
Lavinder continued, “These pinwheels really represent childhood and what every child deserves; to be happy, healthy and in a nurturing environment.”
