HELENA – The Montana Department of Transportation will soon begin construction on a roundabout at the intersection of York Road and Lake Helena Drive.

During construction, traffic patterns will shift and change through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays as the speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.

Work will take place during daylight hours or typically 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Construction is anticipated to begin in April and be completed by fall 2019.

The new roundabout will be a single-lane design with 12-foot lanes and four-foot shoulders. It will also feature LED lighting, curb, gutters, and landscaping in the median.

The project is expected to improve safety at the intersection as 28 crashes were recorded in the area between January 2003 and August 2015. The majority of the crashes occurred as a result of drivers failing to yield and causing a right-impact collision.

The public is invited to stop by the Red Fox Supper Club at 4050 Fox Ridge Drive between 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 to learn more about the construction.
