BOZEMAN – The conservation group Save Our Gallatin Front (SOGF) delivered a signed contract and payment to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation for the purchase of the Limestone West Conservation License on Friday.

SOGF has been working for three years to find an alternative to the logging project in the Limestone West area.

The group submitted the winning bid for the project and is now conserving the area that is the last wild connection to Yellowstone for the next 25 years.

SOGF was able to successfully raise $450,000 with the help of the Gallatin Valley community to pay for the bid.

“There’s just a great deal of satisfaction with all of us that have been involved with this, as well as all of the community members because everyone came together to protect this area. So it was really a community-wide effort and we’re just again ecstatic that we were able to pull this off,” said SOGF Chairman Tim Tousignant.

Tousignant added that the group will be hosting a community celebration later in April.
