BOZEMAN – There’s a scam floating around local parishes and churches.

Bozeman United Methodist, Resurrection Catholic, Holy Rosary Catholic, St. James Episcopal, and Bozeman United Methodist churches are reporting a scam where someone impersonating a pastor or priest and asking for donations for a sudden emergency through email and text. Holy Rosary Catholic Administrative Assitant Jo Ann Schuetze says to always report suspicious activity to the parish or church.

“If you want to let the Police know you can we haven’t actually notified them because as far as we know we haven’t actually had anybody scammed out of that money. They’ve been contacting us to let us know that it’ odd that the priest would reach out to me this way,” Schuetze said

These scams have also been reported at churches and parishes in Butte and Helena. If you’ve been a victim of this scam, you can contact local authorities or the FBI’s cybercrime division.
