55 Helena educators selected for annual Celebration of Excellence

HELENA – 55 current and former Helena educators are being surprised this week as distinguished educators by the Helena Education Foundation.

Graduating seniors from Capital and Helena High Schools, and the Project for Alternative Learning – who have been nominated as Distinguished Students for their achievements – were asked to then select an educator who had a lasting impact on them.

Those Distinguished Educators are being surprised this week.

Helena Education Foundation Executive Director Lisa Cordingley says it’s relationship building at the heart of all

“We actually gave one last night to a retired school nurse. It’s our first school nurse,” says Cordingley. “She was selected by a student who has type 1 diabetes and it was about the time that school nurse spent with her in middle school.”

There are still more surprises to be made.

Helena High School’s Distinguished Educator announcements were postponed due to the broken water main.

Students and educators will come together as a group for the Celebration of Excellence on May 13th.
