GREAT FALLS – Out of thousands of applicants from across the country, three from Great Falls High School will participate in the 2019 ACDA National Conference.
Maryellen McGuire, Sarah Keller and Casey Simons will head to Kansas City at the end of month.
“It’s been a dream of mine since forever,” GFH senior Maryellen McGuire said.
The ACDA stands for the American Choral Directors Association. The conference brings 150 students together to sing for music directors, composers and teachers from all over the United States.
“I’m excited to be with people who have the same passion that I do and to share music with them especially because it’s one thing to sing in that choir and sing at state, but to sing at nationals I feel like it’s going to be this whole new level and I am just beyond excited,” McGuire said.
They will travel to Kansas City at the end of the month and they are excited for the opportunity to share their love for singing.
“I just like the feeling that you get. You get chills when you are in choir because all the different parts when you just blend and feel that click. It just sends shivers up your spine,” Keller said.
Casey Simons holds the honor of being the only male singer from GFH ever chosen for the national conference.
All three share their advice for anyone looking to get involved in choir.
“Just do it. It’s going to help you so much in life. It’s not just learning the music, it’s about making friendships,” Keller said.
“Just do it. That’s the worst part about it and it’s the hardest part. It’s such a vulnerable thing is singing and it’s a big part of you. Just rip off the Band-Aid,” Simons said.
