HELENA – The winter weather is so bad it’s even causing problems for the annual “Race to the Sky” dog sled race.
Because of a blinding snowstorm in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Race to the Sky veterinarians will not arrive in Helena until sometime mid-afternoon Friday.
This means the 300-mile vet check is being re-scheduled to Saturday morning at ten.
It’s happening at Hi-Country Snack Foods in Lincoln, and the 100-mile mushers following after that.
The official start of the 2019 Race to the Sky will start at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9th.
Teams will be heading to White Tail Ranch checkpoint early evening and will head to the finish like at Morrell Creek near Seeley Lake starting at approximately 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
The pre-race banquet is still on for Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Community Hall. Everyone is invited to come to this free pre-race enchilada dinner prepared by Chef Barbie. Come and meet all the mushers on Friday night.
Everything else is scheduled as planned. You can follow the teams on GPS.
