HELENA – The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office hopes to be completely moved into their new home on Fuller Avenue Friday, January 25th.
Sheriff Leo Dutton said they moved into the Breckenridge Street location in 1985, when he was a reserve deputy.
More than 30 years later, they are packing up to move out.
“There’s a little bit of nervousness,” said Dutton. “This has been home since I’ve been in Helena, and this office has been my home for ten years. So time to pack up and make a new home for new beginnings, and it’s my job to lead the change.”
Administration will begin moving first, on Tuesday, and patrol will follow.
According to Dutton, deputies will still be working as usual, and services will be 24/7. But deputies will have to find different spots for activities like shift briefings.
He said the department is utilizing the Lewis and Clark County Search and Rescue building on Valley Drive more while they move.
They are still waiting for the certificate of occupancy for the new building before the public can go inside.
