BOZEMAN – Gallatin County Commissioners have approved the Sheriff’s request for half a million dollars in upgrades to the Detention Center.

The commission approved the request on Tuesday to pay for 18 beds, an updated camera and technology software, and a $170,400 body scanner.

“I believe we have the best jail in the state if not the region,” said Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin. “It was well designed and we are years and years into it. So we are just adapting and we are learning as we go and make those necessary changes, but this is by far the best jail around.”

Gootkin said the upgrade in cameras will help determine what happened during disputes and the body scanner will allow officers to find weapons or drugs that standard pat searches cannot find.
