HELENA – New fencing has gone up around most of the parking lot at Helena’s Capital Hill Mall, ahead of its planned demolition next year.

Dick Anderson, a developer and founder of Dick Anderson Construction, purchased an interest in the mostly empty mall property earlier this year. A representative of Anderson’s told MTN they had seen a number of people trespassing on the property since then, and they put up the fences to stop it.

While much of the 13-acre lot is now fenced off, parking is still open for the mall’s final tenant, Lucky Lil’s Casino.

Dick Anderson Construction announced plans earlier this year to tear down the mall and redevelop the land. Leaders have proposed mixed-use development in place of the existing building.

The work was initially scheduled to start in fall 2018, but DAC postponed it until February 2019, when Lucky Lil’s lease ends. The company has already secured a demolition permit from the city.
