HELENA – Veterans and other patriotic Montanans gathered in the Montana State Capitol Rotunda on Monday December 10 for Wreaths Across America and to place the state capitol wreath.
Today’s event was held in conjunction with similar events across the nation to honor veterans for their service, remember those who are no longer here, and teach the public about the sacrifices every service member makes.
Flags from all branches of the military are represented on this year’s capitol wreath and there is also a National League of Families POW-MIA flag and the Montana State flag and United States flag.
Jane Hamman, with the Montana State Society Daughters of the American Revolution said the wreath not only honors those that served but also how the spirit of their services lives on through future generations.
“The wreath is a symbol of life that never ends, it is a circle and it is from one generation to the next that we must pass on the principles that made our country great,” said Hamman.
The wreath will be on display in the rotunda by the State Capitol Christmas tree through Christmas.
On Saturday December 15 at 10 a.m. wreaths will be placed at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison.
The event is open to the public and organizers are currently looking for volunteers to help with the placing of the wreaths.
