HELENA – Helena Food Share and the Lewis & Clark Library are once again teaming up this Friday, November 16 for their annual Turkey Challenge.

Now in its eighth year, the event challenges individuals and businesses to bring in frozen turkeys to help meet the needs of those who depend upon Food Share this holiday season.

This year’s goal of turkeys donated is to get 2,500 birds to feed families on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Last year the food drive gathered more than 2,200 turkeys and Food Share Executive Director Bruce Day said every donation makes a big difference in fighting hunger in the community.

“Our goal is a little bit higher this year, we are seeing a little bit of an increase need and we’re expecting more families to be in to get a holiday meal from Helena Food Share,” said Day.

People can also always make a monetary donation which Day said helps fill the gaps in foods they need at the pantry for the meals.

Food Share Staff will be on hand at the Library from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. to collect turkeys and accept donations.

The Lewis & Clark Library is also allowing patrons to bring in non-perishable items through Monday Nov. 19 with any late book or item to have their fine forgiven.

Some restrictions apply to fine forgiveness.
