Police seek “Person of interest” in Missoula double murder

UPDATE: 11:50 A.M.: Police say they are looking for a “person of interest” in connection with Friday’s early morning double homicide in Missoula.

Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says authorities are looking for Jonathon Whitworth, 27, in connection with the investigation.

Sgt. Welsh says officers were called to the scene of a disturbance at the Mountain Valley Inn motel in the 400 block of West Broadway shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday.

Responding officers quickly learned that two people were dead and that a third person was seriously wounded by gunfire, according to a news release.

The third person who was shot was taken by ambulance to a Missoula hospital.

Sgt. Welsh says that Whitworth has been determined to be a person of interest in the case and was last seen in the Lolo area on foot.

Whitworth is described as a Native-American male who is 5’11” tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about his current whereabouts is encouraged to call 9-1-1. Folks with any other information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Mark Blood at (406) 552-6281.

Whitworth should not be approached with Sgt. Welsh saying that he may be armed and dangerous.


MISSOULA – Missoula Police tell MTN News that they are investigating a double homicide.

Officers responded to the Mountain Valley Inn on West Broadway just after 1 a.m. Friday morning.

Missoula Police Sergeant Jeremy Odlin confirms that two people were found dead at the scene.

Police say at this time they are still looking for suspects related to the incident.

They are conducting an investigation and have located a vehicle that they believe is related to the double murder.
