HELENA – The Montana National Guard has announced that they will be conducting their second annual Purple Heart Hunt program at Fort William Harry Harrison.
The program gives up to five Purple Heart recipients the opportunity to hunt mule deer on the training area of Fort Harrison.
The available dates for the 2018 hunt are November 13 – 16.
The hunt is held in accordance with all Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks regulations and hunters must follow deer hunting regulations for Hunting District 388 which is a weapon restricted area.
One change this year is that qualified hunters are no longer required to possess a permit to hunt from a vehicle.
MAJ Robert McCrum of the Montana Army National Guard says the hunt is a great chance to give back to those who were injured.
“It’s a great opportunity to give back to our wounded warriors and our Purple Heart recipients and open up some additional land for access,” said McCrum.
Reservations are on a first come basis and can be made via phone to Fort Harrison Range Control at 406-324-3694.
“The Montana Purple Heart Deer Hunt is a way for us to thank those veterans who have given so much to our nation,” said Maj. Gen. Matthew Quinn, the Adjutant General for Montana. “I encourage everyone who is eligible to make a reservation to participate.”
