BOZEMAN – Whittier Elementary School had a special surprise visit from a Harlem Globetrotter on Wednesday.

Globetrotter Orlando “El Gato” Melendez gave a fun and interactive assembly about preventing and handling bullying. This is something the Globetrotters do all around the country and feel it’s important to talk about with elementary school-age kids.

“You’re planting that seed early and just trying to keep it going from that point on,” Melendez said. “I think Globetrotters are recognizable and many of the kids will go home and say, ‘Hey mom it’s a Harlem Globetrotter,’ and maybe mom and dad will tell them a story about the Harlem Globetrotters when they were kids, and it’s something they can relate to from that point on. I think it’s a critical age for that.”

The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse at MSU as a full team on November 18.
